  • Japan's Oldest Brewery

Founded around the end of the Heian Period in 1141, this brewery has a history stretching back more than 850 years and 55 generations of owners, making it Japan's oldest brewery! The brewery's owners, the Sudo Family, forbid chopping down trees within the brewery grounds and there are now more than 600 trees surrounding the brewery. Water quality is the deciding factor in sake brewing. Sudo Brewery uses only high-quality subterranean water, earning them a reptuation for quality sake!

A sake brewery that has won awards in important competitions and is particular about quality

With an 870 year history, Sudo Honke Brewing pride themselves on using premium quality rice harvested within the last five months when brewing their junmai daiginjo sake – the highest grade of sake. What’s more, 100% of the rice used is grown locally in Kasama City. Sudo Honke sake is dry with a well-rounded and deep flavour profile.
